Popp studied music at the St. Josephe Institute of Music. The young composer collaborated with poet and lyricist Jean Broussole, and released popular songs "Papa Labourer" and "Il Dansait". Popp later in his career experimented with sounds and mixes, eventually releasing their biggest hit "Love is Blue" in 1967.
